Our Wines

Cerasuolo di Vittoria – Sicily’s first DOCG!

We have been making our Cerausolo di Vittoria for many years now and have always known that it is a unique, characterful quality wine.

We therefore very much welcomed the news in 2005 that Cerasuolo di Vittoria had become Sicily’s first Dominazione Origine Controllata e Garantita wine -the highest stamp of quality that can be given to an Italian wine.  As a blend of Vittoria’s Frappato grape variety and SIcily’s Nero d’Avola, Cerasuolo di Vittoria could not be more typical of our terroir.  With Santa Tresa Cerasuolo di Vittoria, we have gone some way to help revive this historically important style of wine and to introduce a modern interpretation of it to wine drinkers around the world.

Wine maker’s tasting notes

The bouquet is of dark, ripe berries.  The palate is soft, with well-rounded fruit, reminiscent of blackberries and damsons. This is an elegant wine, with a certain finesse and a lovely long finish.

Food Pairing Suggestions

We have a local dish “Pasta alla Norma”, which goes perfectly with Cerasuolo.  It’s a tomato sauce, with aubergines fried in olive oil, all mixed together with some ricotta cheese.  Cerasuolo is delicious served slightly chilled and we drink it with with meaty fish such as tuna and sword fish.

Our Way

The Old & The New

The Feudo (or estate) of Santa Tresa dates back to 1697 – since that time, wine has always been made here.  We found some archive photos taken at the end of the nineteenth century at Santa Tresa. We’ve had a lot of fun re-creating those photos -taken at exactly the same locations on the estate […]

Santa Tresa red soil

Terra Rossa

The soil on the estate has ideal characteristics: a 40-100 centimetre surface layer of light red sandy loam on a well-drained limestone base, which helps to guarantee a constant supply of vital water. Today, the Feudo di Santa Tresa estate has around 50 hectares of vineyards. The minute selection of the clones and rootstocks and […]

Mount Etna

The power and romance of Mount Etna, which at 3,323 metres is the tallest active volcano in Europe, and is undoubtedly the single most dominant feature of our part of Sicily.  Etna has attracted artists, poets and authors for centuries – a threatening, majestic presence with the most stunning views.
