When we took over the Feudo di Santa Tresa in 2002, we made one wine in our first vintage – Nivuro – a blend of the native Sicilian Nero d’Avola and Cabernet Sauvignon. Now we produce a range of six different styles, all typical of Sicily and all displaying Santa Tresa’s characteristics. The Cabernet Sauvignon vines which we inherited are being phased out in favour of the local Perricone, which is ideally suited to the terroir of the estate. While we have always taken a completely sustainable and environmentally-friendly approach, Santa Tresa is now certified organic, which we are convinced results in wines of the finest and purest expression.
Each of our wines has its own story to tell from the “Super-Sicilian” block-buster Nero d’Avola, Avulisi, to the delicate Cerasuolo di Vittoria.
The wines of Santa Tresa are winning awards all over the world. There is nothing better than to receive completely independent endorsements for the quality and style of our wines! Rina Ianca means “white sand” in Sicilian dialect, reminiscent both of Sicily’s stunning coast line and the light, sandy soil found in the vineyard where we grow our white grapes at Santa Tresa. Rina Ianca was our first foray into white wine making on the estate; we grow the traditional Grillo and the French grape […]
In our corner of Sicily, down in the South East, Frappato is the grape of choice and has been grown in the countryside around Vittoria for centuries. Often a revelation to wine drinkers, Frappato is elegant and refreshing – surprisingly more delicate than many of the muscular reds of Sicily, yet full of character. Santa […]
Fiano was recently introduced to Sicily, where it has found the perfect terroir and really flourishes, which is why we decided to plant Fiano vines on the estate in 2010. This year is our first vintage of Santa Tresa Fiano and this wonderful grape variety has impressed us immensely. Vibrant, fresh and full of character, […]
We have been making our Cerausolo di Vittoria for many years now and have always known that it is a unique, characterful quality wine. We therefore very much welcomed the news in 2005 that Cerasuolo di Vittoria had become Sicily’s first Dominazione Origine Controllata e Garantita wine -the highest stamp of quality that can be […]
Nivuro was the first wine we ever made at Santa Tresa, back in 2003. We had wonderful mature Nero d’Avola as well as Cabernet Sauvignon vines. We decided to blend the two varieties to create Nivuro. As part of our commitment to championing local indigenous grape varieties, for the 10th vintage of Nivuro (2013), we […]
Avulisi is our top wine and therefore has extra special treatment. The grapes for Avulisi come exclusively from our oldest and finest Nero d’Avola vines, which are over 50 years old. Production per hectare is strictly limited in order to achieve the highest possible quality level – around half the production of most Nero d’Avolas. […]
With Insieme, we really set ourselves a challenge. While our organic practices result in all of our wines having a real purity of expression, we wanted to develop a Nero d’Avola which really is the very essence of Sicily’s premium grape variety. We therefore set about creating Insieme – a Nero d’Avola made with no […]
