Santa Tresa hosts The Wine People Team Building event: 700 kg of Waste collected with Plastic Free Italia
From 21 to 23 May, we had the pleasure of welcoming The Wine People team to Santa Tresa for three days dedicated to discovering the local area, sharing common values, and promoting environmental sustainability.
Together, we enjoyed a meaningful experience that brought together the world of wine, environmental stewardship, and teamwork. One of the highlights of the programme was a clean-up initiative organised in partnership with Plastic Free Italia, which gave participants the opportunity to take direct action in support of the local environment.
Taking Concrete Action for the Environment in Sicily
The clean-up activity took place in the areas surrounding Santa Tresa, in the heart of south-eastern Sicily. Thanks to the combined efforts of Plastic Free Italia, The Wine People team, and our own staff, an impressive 700 kg of waste was collected and removed from the environment.
This important achievement contributes to preserving the Sicilian rural landscape, protecting local biodiversity, and preventing plastic and other waste materials from polluting the natural environment.
Wine and Sustainability: Shared Values
At Santa Tresa, sustainability has always been at the heart of our philosophy. We believe that caring for the land goes beyond responsible farming practices; it also involves engaging people and supporting initiatives that create a positive and lasting impact.
For this reason, we were particularly pleased to host The Wine People, whose team building programme in Sicily included a meaningful environmental responsibility activity aligned with our own values.
Contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
The initiative made a tangible contribution to five of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities, by removing litter from the environment and encouraging active community participation.
- SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production, by raising awareness of plastic pollution and promoting more sustainable behaviours.
- SDG 13 – Climate Action, through practical action to protect the environment.
- SDG 14 – Life Below Water, by helping to prevent waste from reaching rivers and seas and protecting marine ecosystems.
- SDG 15 – Life on Land, by supporting biodiversity conservation and helping to combat ecosystem degradation.
Hospitality, Territory and Shared Responsibility
The three days spent together with The Wine People provided a valuable opportunity to showcase our territory, share our vision of sustainable viticulture, and strengthen relationships built on common values.
We would like to thank The Wine People, Plastic Free Italia, and everyone involved for their enthusiasm, commitment, and positive energy. Initiatives such as this demonstrate how businesses, communities, and organisations can work together to create a meaningful and measurable positive impact.
At Santa Tresa, sustainability means caring for the land every day, both inside and beyond the vineyard. Results like these show what can be achieved when people and organisations come together with a shared purpose.
